Overpaid Athletes

Before this reading, I did not fully realize just how much money the athletes that we watch on television make in a year. To think that these people, who are just playing the game they love, make so much money is just ridiculous. These people do not work; they just play baseball or football all day. Yeah, the sport takes a lot of work and you are away from family sometimes but that doesn’t mean you need to make millions of dollars in a year. Athletes should be paid less, the less money they are paid the cheaper it is to attend an MLB game. Many people do not get the chance to enjoy a really Major League Baseball game in their lives, which is because they are just too expensive. They have to charge a lot to make up for the players salary. I believe that athletes deserve a pay reduction, now. These people are just going to keep asking for more unless there is something done. If money really is not important to you, than why do you keep asking for more and more? You can live just fine with 7 million dollars a year; there is no reason to bitch. Athletes earn way too much money, it needs to stop.

  1. Like you before reading this article I had no clue this was a problem. I disagree with you I would love to play the game I love and get paid millions of dollars I don’t know about you. These sports take so much work I think the athletes deserve to get the money. First off an MLB is not that expensive just depends on what team you want to see. If it’s like the red sox or the Yankees then the tickets will be expensive. There are a lot of ball clubs that have reasonable tickets because there not paying their players as much as other ball clubs.

  2. I have to wholeheartedly disagree. Their salaries are set by the teams that pay for them. I don’t disagree that they get paid more than they probably should but how we feel about it shouldn’t matter. It is the team’s decision if they want to pay their athletes a ridiculous amount of money since it is their money. If people do not wish to pay to see the athletes pay they don’t have too. They can go to a much cheaper minor league game instead. Minor leagues have athletes that are not paid much, but are still talented and people enjoy seeing them play. If they choose to see A-Rod get paid $22 million to play a play he loves, then so be it. The teams decide the wages, and that is their job. They earn their money just the same as us. There is no reason to dock someone’s pay for doing something they love. There is no reason to be upset about it. Our tax dollars don’t pay for them, our tickets and merchandise do.
