Gay Marriage

Mr. Thompson, the author of this reading, is definitely sure of what he believes in, as am I. I cannot believe when people are against gay marriage. They are just like us; they are not trying to reap the benefits that are granted to married couples. They just want to be seen as normal. For most of these individuals’ lives they have been unaccepted by their peers and as their friends go off and get marries, they stand there with their partner wishing for more. Some of these people dream of sharing the last name of their partner, but they cannot. Although there are legal ways to change an individual’s name, they are expense and just not the same experience. The author also says something about polygamy. Polygamy and incest are illegal because interbreeding can cause mutations in an individual’s DNA which can lead to sever birth defects and even more. Those laws are there to protect a family from the hardships of seeing the child like that. Although I would love to see every single person marry the person that they love, that just cannot happen. But gay marriage can happen and it should be allowed to happen. I am for gay marriage and everyone should be proud for who they are.

  1. I agree with all that you had to say regarding this sensitive and debatable topic. However I have mixed views on this. Personally I can care less if gay marriage is legal or not. Traditionally and biblically a man and women are to be married. It does not work out like that for everyone unfortunately. I believe people should be proud of who they are, regardless if you are gay, lesbian, transgender or whatever else. If two people are happy they need to be left alone. Recently this topic has come to life and is so real. If two people are happy, and want to live together forever, I feel they deserve the right to marriage. This article proposed an opposite view, which states that we all have the right to marry a person of opposite gender of us. It has been in place for many years, and is not meant to discriminate just simply stating we all have the same rights, and marrying a person the same sex as us is not one.

  2. I would have to agree with you gay marriage is a very controversial and debatable subject. If two people are happy together then why can’t they be together? I feel they should be able to get married congress would have to do is pass a bill that rewords the statement that says only a Male and female can get married and make it so there are no restrictions on same sex marriage. I would agree that all they want to do is be to be normal and e with whom they love. I personally think polygamy is terrible and that should still be illegal
